Dr Gayathri Kamath is presently a senior consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore. Her special interests are in the fields of high-risk pregnancy and minimal access surgery. She has been in Fortis Hospital ever since its inception and has catered to high risk pregnancies with comorbidities. With the robust support from the department of Obstetrics, neonatology ,fetal medicine and interventional radiology, the patients with high risk have been immensely benefitted. she has 30 years of expertise to back her up. She has also presented papers in national and international forums. She has also performed with her team a large number of total laparoscopic hysterectomies, laparoscopic and open myomectomies(fibroid removal),vaginal hysterectomies and hysteroscopic surgeries for removal of polyps.
She is an alumnus of Topiwala National Medical College attached to BYL Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai.
After postgraduation, she gained rich clinical experience in gynaecological oncology having worked at the Kidwai Regional institute of Oncology, Bangalore and in infertility with Dr Sulochana Gunasheela. She also worked as a lecturer in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. She nurtured into a Consultant at Sevakshetra hospital which is a Charitable Hospital in South Bangalore. She was a visiting consultant then in several other hospitals in south Bangalore. She is the diplomate of the Ian Donald inter university school of Medical ultrasound. Ever since the inception of Fortis Hospitals she has been one of the pioneers in building up the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her current interests revolve along minimal access surgery and robotics. She is quite conservative in her approach to surgery and if mandated would resort to minimal accesss approach considering the immense benefit it gives to the patients. She has successfully completed the intuitive Da-vinci Xi system robotic surgery training as a console surgeon.
She has been always passionate about teaching and has given several health talks in schools and various organizations to create health awareness in young girls and women .
She is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK. She has presented several papers in national and international fora.
She can converse in English, Kannada, Hindi, Konkani, Telugu, Marathi and Tamil.
